Dow falls below 9k on anniversary of record high

The Dow Jones industrials have fallen below the 9,000 mark for the first time since August 2003, hurt by a steep decline in shares of General Motors Corp.

The drop comes on the one-year anniversary of the index's highest close ever. The Dow closed at 14, 164 on Oct. 9, 2007.
